Hot Contest at Beaudesert & Woodford

Two hotly contested events in the Queensland showing calendar are the Beaudesert and Woodford Calf Shows.  These shows are popular with members as they open up showing to all breeders big and small.

The South East Queensland Illawarra Cattle Club was first off block with their Calf Show held at the picturesque Beaudesert Showgrounds. Joining local breeders were exhibitors from the Wide Bay Burnett Illawarra Cattle Club area, Jondene, Riverwood, Den Dia and Ronya studs.  Not convinced that these members travel for the calf competition but rather the wonderful hospitality received from the SEQICC ladies who provide some very appetising meals.

Jock Johnston from F S Johnston & Sons’ Jondene Stud swept all before him under judge Daniel Cochrane (Illawarra & Southern) taking out Senior (Jondene Tiddlewinks 6) and Junior (Jondene Velda 8) Championships although the Ledger Family (Riverwood, Carters Ridge) clawed their way back in the groups.

A week on and Woodford Calf Show was in doubt due to recent flooding but with a few days of sunshine and work from local member Alan Trim, exhibitors rolled up for the return bout, this time under Judge Ian Pike of Pomona.

This time the Ledger Family’s Riverwood Stud got up over F S Johnston & Sons to take out both the Senior and Junior Championships with Riverwood Fancy 5 and Riverwood Blush 3 respectively.

Congratulations to all exhibitors for the wonderful display of young stock.
