Toowoomba Royal Show

The dust has settled on another very successful Toowoomba Royal Show.  While some showers were experienced in the leadup, the main judging day of Friday could not be bettered.

The split showing with dry cattle on the Thursday and in-milk animals on the Friday followed by the Supreme Judging, caused a lot of discussion and Committeeman in Charge - Dairy Section, Max Middleton, has written to all exhibitors requesting feedback on this change.  I ask all Illawarra exhibitors to respond and I'm sure Max would welcome the comments of spectators, especially those who would normally attend the judging but may not have this year because of the changed format.

Max did another marvellous job in running the dairy section and on behalf of Illawarra exhibitors I thank him for his personal contribution to prizemoney.

A big thanks also to major sponsor Rabobank.

The Arthur Middleton Memorial Trophy for the Champion Fat Plus Protein Cow was won by D & C Janke on behalf of the Holsteins.  D & C Janke also took out the Champion Milking Cow/Heifer - trophy donated by Lloyd Peters.  Jock Johnston (FS Johnston & Sons' Jondene Stud) took out the Champion Fat Plus Protein Team of Two (Cow & Heifer) award.

Dairy entries increased by over fifty with 95 Illawarra head being exhibited. It was wonderful to see the Lester Bros return to showing after a gap of several years.  First time exhibitors J P Bourke & Co attracted a lot of interest with their cow Myrtleholme Empress 32 in Class 12, 7 years and over in milk.  Unfortunately they also experienced the frustration of their lovely exhibit not taking to the different surroundings.  We look forward to their attendance at many more shows.  Congratulations to Roly Voss and Clinton Vonhoff on their success.

Steve Ledger (Ledger Family's Riverwood Stud) had a very successful showing with just six head, taking out Senior Champion, Junior Champion and Juvenile Reserve Champion.  Steve also claimed the Grand Champion Illawarra exhibit.  Uncle Jock Johnston of FS Johnston & Sons' Jondene Stud took out the Juvenile Champion.
