Two in a Row for Ailsa at Toowoomba

The Bourke Family's Myrtleholme Ailsa 14 again took out Champion Cow at the 2012 Toowoomba Royal Show.  Myrtleholme was also awarded Honourable Mention with Myrtleholme Lucy 2.  Jondene Barbara 9 (F S Johnston & Sons) spoiled the party by taking out the Reserve Championship.

Rosedale Talent Melody owned by the Henry Family of Hodgsonvale, was named Junior Champion over another Myrtleholme animal, Myrtleholme W Ladybird 2 with Clinton Vonhoff's Myall Lawrence Jade as Honourable Mention.

The Henry Family took both Champion and Reserve Champion Juvenile with Tara Cherry 8 and Tara Daffodil 43 respectively.

Judge, Michael Tuhan, Riversleigh, Tatura, Victoria, said the senior classes contained a tremendous line up of cows with good animals in every milking class making choice of Champion Cow quite difficult.

"I went with the more mature cow that had had more calves and showed tremendous balance and udder texture.  The Reserve Cow had a tremendous rear udder and a great frame but not the balance of udder and strength of loin that the Champion Cow displayed, " said Michael.

"In the Junior Championship, there were two standout animals.  The Champion was an extremely refined heifer with a really soft textured udder and had an advantage in dairyness and rump setting.  The Reserve Champion was a big powerful heifer with a good udder.  She lacked the cleanness of bone of the Champion."

"The Juvenile Champion and Reserve were two very similar heifers sired by the same bull.  Both were well balanced and long heifers with a nice balance of dairyness and strength."

"I would like to congratulate all exhibitors on such a wonderful line up of cattle and the depth of dairyness on show," said Michael.
