MOUNTAIN FARM ILLAWARRAS DISPERSAL

The herd dispersal sale of Mountain Farm Illawarras (J F & T A Downes) will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 commencing 11am on farm and under cover at Jamberoo Mountain Road, Jamberoo, NSW.

With the break up of the family’s Roo View stud and properties in December 1998, the 3 sons of Arthur Downes commenced on their own journey of establishing their individual Illawarra Studs and John and his wife Terry and family commenced with Mountain Farm Illawarras on their present property.

They soon built on their own Roo View cow families and newly developed ones. Purchases include Mathew’s with Alex McLean’s Park Lane cattle and for Craig with Terry O’Sullivan’s Harley Park. The former started Scenic Valley Illawarras, the latter Mountain Dew, therefore both of these prefixes are incorporated in this sale.

Blending in with the overall breeding programme has been John’s wise choice of selecting sires through both natural and AI introductions. John has always been extremely dedicated with strengthening cow lines and prepared to cull poor performers, all this leading to a gratifying production herd but never losing sight of the fact that it can always be made better.

The Downes family have always been keen showmen and John’s involvement in the showring has rewarded him with a worthwhile share of success. The herd and grown heifers have been closely scrutinized with their selection to ensure buyer satisfaction as have the best of the youngsters chosen to keep the offering interesting.

Auctioneers, Hedley Johnson, advise that the vendors are offering interest free terms to approved buyers to help you make your preferred purchases and as for health the herd now holds a Score 8 status for Johnes. What a great day this sale is going to be for all Illawarra Breeders.

The sale offering includes 85 stud Illawarras in various stages of lactation, 9 springing stud Illawarra heifers and 16 unmated Illawarra heifers of all ages.
