LISMORE DAIRY SPECTACTULAR 2012

In the Illawarra ring this show lived up to its name with possibly the best display of the breed seen in Australia this year with an entry of 60 head entered by 7 exhibitors, the highest of all six breeds.  No doubt the quality of the display was helped with all animals paraded, apart from the juvenile classes, being shown in the in-milk classes.  The quality of the udders on display was one of the highlights.

Our judge, Mr Graeme Dudgeon, studmaster at the now dispersed Parkview Illawarra Stud, gave a polished judging display enjoyed by the ringside and exhibitors alike.

In the Juvenile Championship Allen & Denise Whatman’s Allen Vale Virgin 12 was at the top of the line, with Reserve Champion going to Henry family’s Tara Absolute Red in a close placing.  Honourable Mention went to Tara Daffodil 38.

Myrtleholme Hope 23 lead the line-up in the Junior section.  Exhibited by JP Bourke & Co she also won Best Junior Udder.  Reserve Champion went to Whatman’s Allen Vale Blossom 16, and Honourable Mention to Greg Osborne’s Clarefield H Tulip Jinny.

The Senior Championship was as you would expect a close tussle.  Last  year’s Reserve Champion, Warren Gallagher’s Moyola Madam 8 took one step up this year to claim the Championship.  Although still on her 3rd lactation her best years may still be in front of her. The Reserve Champion, was the recent winner of the Queensland On-farm Challenge, Myrtleholme Ailsa 14.  The judge marvelled at her udder quality for a 9 year old cow on her 7th month of lactation, and still obviously producing a lot of milk.  (Shane Bourke advised that she is still producing in excess of 50 lts daily.)  Ailsa 14 went on to win the All Breeds Best Udder award.

The Whatmans were never far from the top of the line-up took the Honourable Mention Award with Allen Vale Blossom 15.
