The Tara Illawarra stud was founded in 1931 on Greyleigh, Fairfield and Park View bloodlines. The stud was started by Mrs K Henry and sons (Len, Frank, Jack and Mannix) at Thanes Ck, Warwick and was moved to Cambooya in 1934. The Cambooya property was sold in 1981 at which time the herd was put into the hands of Michael Henry (Mannix’s Son) and was relocated to Inglewood.

After the marriage of Michael and Glenda in 1988 the Tara cattle were moved to David and Joyce Savage’s property, where they are still run and managed along with the White Park herd.

The Tara stud first showed at Toowoomba in 1935 and was a regular exhibitor there until 1985, missing only two shows in this fifty-year period. Tara cattle were also regularly shown at many other Darling Downs shows. The stud still shows regularly at Toowoomba and, more recently, other shows such as Gympie, Maleny, Brisbane and the Dairy Spectacular held at Bangalow in Northern N.S.W.
