Queensland’s Sunshine Coast has had almost constant rain since Christmas, but a week’s worth of fine weather in the lead-up to the Maleny Show filled everyone with optimism that the beautiful Maleny showgrounds would be bathed in sunshine.
However, constant drizzle on Thursday, followed by rain on judging day (Friday, 30th May 2025), meant that the dairy shed was hurriedly reconfigured to allow judging indoors.
Four Illawarra exhibitors presented 32 animals to judge, Rob Wilson (NSW).
While the rain continued to fall on Saturday, the State Finals of the Young Judges and Young Paraders competitions were held. Congratulations to Frances English, daughter of Greg & Bronwyn English, Eachamvale Stud, Malanda, representing the Malanda district on taking first place. Local, Connor Nicholls, Valleyside Stud, Kenilworth, son of Tim & Liza Nicholls, representing the Maleny district, took second place.

Results of the on-ground milking competition were announced on Saturday. Strip out was Wednesday evening, with samples from the Thursday morning and evening milkings tested for butterfat, protein and weight of milk. Congratulations to Brad & Casey Holt, who took out the Supreme Champion Butterfat Cow and Weight of Milk Cow for 2025 with Panorama Tessa 60 (34.093 litres, 1.3789kgs Fat). Champion Butterfat Heifer went to the Ledger’s Riverwood Model 414 with 24.9 litres (1.3054 kg Fat). The weight of Milk Heifer went to Riverwood Libby 402 with 30.739 litres.
